ABOUT ME
I feel fortunate to have a career that is based on inspiration and imagination. Through my role at Irvine Nature Center, I develop programs that celebrate diversity within the natural world and help inspire others to appreciate and respect nature. Creative arts are the catalyst for this discovery and reflection.

ABOUT MY WORK
My personal art work ranges from paintings and collage to assemblage and sculpture installations. I have two distinctly separate ways of working creatively: solo art work (featured here) and collaborative art made in a community or school setting. I make this distinction because the kind of planning and results acheived for collaborative projects are vastly different from the way I create my personal work.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Mixed-media work allows me to develop my own visual dialogue in a variety of textures. This personal visual language is constructed through layers of markers, pencil, ink, and paint, and is often fused with common, mundane items such as thread, cardboard, or magazine paper.

My paintings begin with 'automatic' marks. Lines flow onto the surface as irregular, intuitive shapes to form patterns. Complex color relationships unite these instinctive marks. Through this process, personal experiences are translated from a subconscious level to mixed-media abstraction.
