Monica M. Wiedel-Lubinski (non-objective, abstract paintings and drawings)
April 2010 Lotta Art Exhibit at Silo Point
Come out to support School 33 at their annual benefit "Lotta Art". I have donated one of my paintings along with dozens of other area artists' work. Purchase a ticket to the event on Saturday, April 24 and you will go home with a piece of art!
March/April 2010 Revelations: recent work at the Yellow Dog Tavern
Come to the Yellow Dog Tavern for a drink and take a look at some of my favorite paintings from the last year or so. The artist reception will be on March 10 from 6-8p.m. -- stop by if you can!
Exhibition at MICA, Sept. 2009
One of my favorite recent works is on exhibit at the Maryland Institute College of Art this month (Two If By) in the 3rd Floor Fox Gallery. Please come out for the closing reception on September 15 from 5-7p.m. I'd love to see you there!
321 Gallery in Mount Vernon: Reception on October 11, 2008
321 Gallery is opening its doors on October 10th for a V.I.P. Reception and the Grand Opening Reception is October 11, 2008. My work will be part of the gallery's regular inventory, so please visit to see my paintings in person.
March 2008, Accidental/Coincidental at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Staten Island, NY
I was invited to submit work to Newhouse for an up-coming show with a fascinating premise: unexpected art work which focuses on process over product. I was interviewed as part of the show's catalogue, so be sure to visit the website for more info regarding my approach to painting. And for the record, this painting is my favorite one to date. http://www.snug-harbor.org/newhouse/index.html

Eureka! at Load of Fun in Baltimore February 2008
Opening on Saturday, February 16, Eureka! is an exhibit featuring "happy accidents and exquisite failures". Okay, not that the painting I submitted is a failure, but it was inspired by a spontaneous painting session with my 4-year old nephew. His free approach to watercolors inspired me, and my watercolor sketch became the springboard for the painting that I submitted for the show.
Music for Humanity at Towson University
Check out this worthy event on November 15, 2007. The student union lounge at TU will host djs, rappers, bands, break dancers, grafitti artists, henna artists -- you get the picture -- to perform in the name of charity. I will be creating a 4X8 foot painting during the event alongside many other talented artists. Come see what evolves as I respond to all this creative energy...
mural project "Calm sweeps the City" September 2007
This mural for the George Kelson Elementary/Middle School in Sandtown is one of those projects designed with the community in mind. Volunteers, including students from the school, will help paint this mural during a day-long event on September 15, 2007 sponsored by SBER. It's on two floors of the school...quite the under-taking, but I love the kids...
Open Studio Tour: October 2007
s33 hosts an annual "Open Studio Tour" throughout the city...it's a fun way to traipse around town and see how artists do what they do best. Add me to that mix! I'm installing new work at The CAZBAR in Mount Vernon to participate in this event. Okay, okay it's a far cry from my studio at home, but it's certainly more conducive to receiving guests. October 20-21 are the Open Studio Tour dates, but check s33's website to figure out which day to come by.
On-line Interview, May '07
For two days, May 9 and May 10, www.penseyeview.com will feature an interview about me and my artwork. It's an interesting concept...they rotate artists to help promote our work. They have extensive archives, too, so if you miss the interview during my dates, you can always dig through them for your "monica" fix.
Human Nests
I'm excited to say that I will be creating an on-site installation of my "human nests" for Baltimore Green Week's eco-festival in Druid Hill Park on Saturday, May 5, 2007. All are invited to interact within these life-size spaces. I will be documenting this interaction during the fest. I'm honored to support the mission of BGW with this installation -- but more on these when I post images!
Lotta Art at s33
I donated a small study for this annual fundraiser. Gotta give love to the 'lotta art' benefit! It's such a cozy grassroots vibe there, I'm fond of s33. Buy some art to help support this great place.
Out of order at MAP
If you're looking to unearth some Baltimore art treasures, the Maryland Art Place is where to do it. I have one painting in this show, but I'll admit it isn't a current one. If you're wandering around the Power Plant LIVE downtown, you should stop by MAP and take a peak! Show closes on Friday, April 20, 2007.
Solo show in Pigtown (February thru April 2007)
Swing by Shahrazad's Neo-Soul Cafe on 771 Washington Blvd (formerly the Yabba Pot) to check out some of my work in this solo show. The owner is very supportive of the arts and hosts all kinds of creative gatherings including local music and poetry readings. I particularly love the center wall that extends clear up to the second floor -- a great place to highlight my "Voice of Baltimore" paintings, among others.
The Main Street Art Gallery
If your're in Glyndon, stop in at the Main Street Art Gallery and take a look at some of my small collage works. They are on consignment through the spring.

AND FYI
As for Java Mamma's, I didn't exhibit there after all. I would never recommend any serious artist hang their work in this space! The owner makes great coffee, truly, but hasn't a clue about art or what we require to hang our work (they're not posters after all). Because of her lack of consideration and level knowledge about art, I cancelled my show there.
Configurations: recent paintings at The Cazbar
Configurations, a solo show featuring 15 of my most current paintings are on display at the swanky Cazbar, located at 316 N. Charles Street in Mt. Vernon. Show runs through October 1st. Come out for the opening reception on Friday, September 1, 6-8 p.m.
collaborative art at ArtScape '06
The Voice of Baltimore project at ArtScape was incredibly rewarding. Loads of people turned out, despite a stormy afternoon on Saturday. The resulting paintings (two 36X36 canvases atop two more 36X48 canvases and one projection screen about 4 feet by 5 feet) are pheonomenal, thanks to hundreds of original words. The rich text is layered and complex with a telling perspective on the city of Baltimore. Favorite words include: "potencial" (gotta love the misspelling), "alive", "full", "empty", "shh...AIDS", and "rising". Oh, and I can't forget "redeemable", "hon", and "how-to". If you contributed your word, I thank you! Please check out the photos under Community Projects and see if you can find yours.
